Fans of The Elder Scrolls can now let out countless sighs of relief and get ready to mark their calendars for the up-and-coming launch of The Elder Scrolls Online. The official announcement comes after countless rumors and much anticipation for a massively multiplayer online (MMO) version of Bethesda’s highly-popular role-playing game.
No final release date has been given, although The Elder Scrolls Online will definitely be released sometime in 2013 for both the PC and Mac.
The gameplay of The Elder Scrolls Online will take place a millennium before the events in the latest released game in the franchise, Skyrim. Players can expect to see recurring areas from Elsweyr, Skyrim, and Cyrodiil make an appearance in the yet-to-be-launched MMORPG’s map.
We have been working hard to create an online world in which players will be able to experience the epic Elder Scrolls universe with their friends, something fans have long said they wanted.
It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years. The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.
– Matt Firor, game director of The Elder Scrolls Online
More details about the game will be revealed in the June issue of Game Informer, but you can expect to see screenshots and maybe a teaser trailer posted online very, very soon.
